Ambitious trip Boston to Rockies and back
We’re starting to plan a long road trip, Boston to Denver/Moab/Flagstaff and back, mostly to see parks and some zoos but also friends in various spots, and one quirky visit to the Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown.
It’s an ambitious trip, adding up to 41 days. Our plans are to stay in hotels/motels every night, and limit drive time most days to about 8 hours, not counting rest stops, with some exceptions for longer drives. We’re seniors, so our park time will be for easy stuff, no strenuous or technical hikes.
Here’s our first pass, showing start and end point for each day. I’d love to get comments, criticisms, and suggestions. I'm especially interested in:
- What specifically to do around Moab, Flagstaff, Mesa Verde. We can consider some other place than Moab as a hub for that area. The items in the right hand column for that area are just suggestions right now.
- Best route and where to stop/stay on the segment from Columbus to Badlands or elsewhere in southwest South Dakota.
- Best route and where to stop/stay on the segment from Champaign-Urbana back to Boston.
- Any horrible mistakes we're making or something we're not taking into account?
