Decent vehicle for regular road trips for a poor person?
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, but please let me know if there's a better place to do so.
Some quick background: I moved from Michigan to Oregon 3 years ago when I was 18. Over that time my fear of travel has only become more unbearable. Planes are a hard no. Trains and buses are also a no but not as intensely bad as planes. Basically I've accepted that the only way I can ever visit my family again is if I drive there myself, anything else is just too much for reasons I'm not going into detail in this description.
What are some vehicle suggestions for getting me from Oregon to Michigan and back potentially (but probably not) as often as 4 times a year? Does a vehicle like this even exist? I don't make much money at all and I know that car related issues are usually very expensive, but I haven't seen my family in so long due to my fear of travel in ways that I don't have complete control (planes, trains, bus). I would really really like an affordable but safe option to drive there myself. Anyone have suggestions?
Not sure if this is necessary information, but I would also be bringing my pitbull and cat.
