Road trip from Santa Fe to Salt Lake in 11 Days [Advice]
To preface, we are just laying the groundwork for our trip. We have a few solid things that are happening- primarily our flights in and out of the region, and a rental car!
We are flying into ABQ, for an 11 day road-trip in early September.. We have both been in that region before, mine was in passing on a road-trip about 3 years ago where we really didn't stop and get to look around much at all, except in Santa Fe which I loved. We have both been to the Grand Canyon and really have no desire to go back again. This trip, I know we would like to be out in nature and to disconnect. However, some cool small towns or large cities sprinkled in is perfect to balance it out. We are planning on staying at Airbnbs or Hotels along the way.
Itinerary so far:
Day 1- Fly into ABQ- we are getting a rental car, and driving to a venue mid-way between ABQ and Santa Fe- we are staying there, so day 1 is taken care of.
Day 2- Santa Fe exploration/ stay the night. Hot springs?
Day 3- Drive out of Santa Fe, likely to Taos- may stay a night. Hot spring?
Day 4- Leave Taos to Capitol Reef? [EDIT: Taos to Mesa Verde] on to Capitol Reef*
Day 5 thru 7- Capitol Reef for maybe 2 or 3 days?
Day 7 thru 9- Moab, see Arches- more hiking?
Day 9 or 10 to Salt Lake? Fly out on Day 11.
Any thoughts on Zion being worth a look over any of the above?
And... other suggestions for stops along the way? Really open to any ideas or criticisms!
