Planning advice and ideas, WI to...somewhere west
My SO and I (and our 7 month old husky puppy) have 10, potentially 12, days of vacation coming up the last week of October. We know we want to go to Oregon, near the Portland area, since once I finish my degree this is likely where we will move. We also know that we will be camping wherever we go (either tent or borrowing my dad's teardrop camper).
Because we have at least 10 days, we were thinking of possibly turning our there-and-back trip to OR into a multi-state, multi-park loop. I know that I'd like to go to the Badlands in SD, and he wants to at least drive through Yellowstone (weather permitting).
Are there any other parks/interesting places we should add to our itinerary? We don't mind driving long hours, and we're game for anything. What should we expect for weather along the way (again, end of October/early November). Since it's so late in the camping season, will I need to reserve camp sites, or just rely on walk-ins being readily available?
