Transportation in Malawi

I’m (30s/white/F) traveling in Malawi later in August. I’m trying to figure out transportation options. I’d like to travel from Lilongwe to Nkhata Bay, down to Nkhotakota, over to Cape Maclear and then back to Lilongwe. To get from Lilongwe to Nkhata Bay, it looks like I can take Axa or Sososo coaches to Mzuzu and then taxi to Nkhata Bay. My host in Nkhata Bay also seemed to think I could get a taxi to Nkhotakota. The cape Maclear leg of the journey I’m unsure of...I asked a few travel agencies in Malawi for quotes for road transfers, but the prices were pretty crazy (~$600 each transfer). I could rent a car, but the driving conditions definitely aren’t what I’m used to. Minibuses sound dangerous, though I’m happy to be corrected if that’s a misapprehension.Does anyone have experience or tips on getting around Malawi? via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2ygWskn
