Tips needed for US

Where to go?Dear wanderers,I am an European F (23) who is planning a trip to central/south America. Because unfortunately travelling makes me very anxious, especially prior to leaving, I figured it might be a good idea to go to the US first. Since I speak English almost fluently, the culture in the US is not so different from mine and I already feel quite familiar with the country because of tv shows etc, I thought starting in the US would maybe help release some of my tension before going to the more challenging countries (for me, at least). However, since the US is super big of course, and I don't really have an idea of what distinguishes cities from one another, I was wondering if you have any tips for me as to where to start my trip. Of course I can check Google Maps for cities that are close to central america, but I have no idea what cities are fun en which aren't. I would really prefer a city that's (generally) safe and has a relaxed vibe, but is still 'alive'. I am not that much into big metropoles though (New York for instance doesn't really appeal to me), I prefer smaller cities because I easily lose oversight in big, chaotic cities. But if you guys know one you'd really recommend for me, then shoot anyway and I'll check it out. I really like nature so it'd be a big plus if the city is near a national park.It is important that it's a city from where it's easy to travel to central America (my destinations probably will be Cuba and Colombia, maybe Mexico). When I say easy, I mean: it shouldn't take too long and not be too expensive. What city (or region) would you guys recommend to me, and why?Thank you so much!! via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2LQu1CU
