Stay in one place 3+ week winter trip in southern USA, possibly Mexico?

Hello all,I've travelled solo in northern / western Europe, and a little bit in the USA -- but it's always been a sight seeing, few days in each city, kind of holiday. I've been to an all inclusive in Mexico solo also. This winter (flexible dates), I'd like to try living in one place for an extended period, living like a local, somewhere warm and interesting... southern USA or possibly Mexico (my Spanish is non-existent). Maybe three weeks, up to six weeks, in January or February.I've gone through the threads here, looked on Air Bnb in various locations, the home exchange websites, and similar. I'm having a hard time narrowing down a location and figuring out a budget.Ideally, I'd like something with an equipped kitchen, space for writing / painting, a walkable neighbourhood, close to groceries and recreation (a pool? a gym? a rec centre?), quiet and safe for a solo woman traveller.Has anyone done this kind of "snowbird" extended stay but not the stereotypical "Canadians in an RV" winter holiday? How did you find accommodation? Sublet? Advice very welcome. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/30QHhe6
