San Francisco to New York Roadtrips - Suggest Routes/Stops
Hi All. My wife and I are moving from San Francisco to New York, and are planning to drive there in August. Want some validation or suggestion for routes and stops. Quick parameters:
- Want to do it in 9 days (leaving mid-day on a Friday, arriving mid-day the following Saturday), though could adjust +/- 1 days if there are stops worthwhile to add or a place we want to stay an additional night.
- Looking for an average of probably ~7-8 hours of driving per day (based on a google maps estimates, since we are budgeting or accounting for the fact that we might go over 1-2 hours based on traffic), and don't want this to exceed 10 hours in a specific day.
- Need to stop in Columbus for one night to visit friends
- 1st priority is probably staying in semi-major cities (ideally, we'd get up fairly early so that we can arrive early in our destination and eat dinner and experience an evening there). We'd generally be of the mindset to get up, and drive for most of the day with minimal stops.
- 2nd priority is (given the above) to make the driving between destinations as scenic and "un-boring" as possible.
Currently, we are thinking: San Francisco -> Los Angeles -> Flagstaff -> Albuquerque -> Oklahoma City -> St Louis -> Chicago -> Columbus -> Philadelphia -> New York. The longest days of driving are the 2 days of Albuquerque to OKC to St Louis (at roughly 8 hours each day).
Any thoughts on the route, or suggestions to tweak or completely change it? Thanks!
