Packing for short hotel stays on a long trip
We're on a long road trip, so there's lots of stuff packed with us. However, a fair bit of it winds up coming into the hotels with us. I'm used to having 1-2 suitcases for the three of us that need to go into the hotel once and stay there, but now we have 3 suitcases (plus various smaller bags) that need to get inside each hotel, where we're staying only 1-2 nights at a time.
I have visions of bringing in only the smallest suitcase per hotel, which could easily hold the clothes we need for that stay, but that would require unpacking and repacking it in the parking lot out of the larger suitcases. I haven't wanted to attempt that so far.
Does anyone have a packing strategy they use to minimize how much gets toted inside?
(And to preempt the obvious, the packing strategy of "bring less crap" is currently facing the dual challenges of a preschooler and toting along the stuff the moving truck won't take for assorted reasons.)
