I've been thinking of traveling solo to NYC, but I'm intimidated

I've been thinking of traveling this year because this same time last year, I was traveling with family. I want to visit New York City because it seems like a great place to see. However, I wasn't able to get anyone to go with me, so I will have to do this solo. And that sounds scary to me.Some background, I'm a 27 year old male from California and I have little travel experience and I think I'm not that great socially. I've never traveled alone, I've never flown nationally, and I've never been to the East coast. I've done some research on the travel and accommodations part of the trip and possible places to visit. I'm mostly interesting in sightseeing. The thing I'm concerned about is how do I actually do this? Like, get from place to place and not look like I'm completely clueless. This is why I would have liked to go with someone else, preferably someone with more travel experience. That way I could get that hand-holding experience so I actually know what to do next time.I've been putting this off for too long, but I'd like to spend a week there, so about 5-7 days. At this point, it would probably be a visit in the fall at the earliest. Is this recommended?Since it's just me, I'd like to spend the money on a nice hotel if possible. Things I'd like to see are: Central Park, The World Trade Center, the Nintendo Store, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square. In addition to that, I'd like to see any bridge, any museum, and any view from the top of a building. Tours would be good too since there would be other people around with a similar goal.So my concern is, how do I connect the dots to make this happen? Would it be easier to stick with other people that know what they're doing? I'm missing that element of trust because who do I fall back on when I get lost or confused? In my trip last year, there were always people there to support us every step of the way. But this time, I'll be all alone. Solo travel sounds exciting, but scary the first time.Did anyone else have a similar experience for their first trip? Is there anything else I should know? via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2XZLUos
