Hi! I am starting a year long trip across South America. I have been doing light research on international health insurance companies but now I am buckling down and really needing to make a decision. I don't really love any of the insurance contracts that I have read (my mind is mush) and I am wondering whether you well traveled humans have come across a health insurance company that sounds something similar the passage as follows for a 22 year old USA female.I would like an insurance company that provides coverage for non-life threatening emergencies. Most international health insurance companies define emergency as a life threatening event that could result in death or loss of limb within 24 hours. But probably more likely (knock on wood), I will experience non life threatening emergencies. For example: acute stomach pain, UTI, ear infection. These symptoms and illnesses would not result in death or loss of limb but need to be treated. Is there any medical insurance that you know that has a looser definition of emergency and would cover costs for the service, diagnosis and treatment for these illnesses?? I don't really need primary care if they can cover non life threatening emergencies. Also, it would be great if it covered for dental also. And as the owner of this fictitious travel insurance, I would also throw in theft coverage and flight or baggage delay compensation.
