first solo trip: Guatemala
so I’m thinking of doing my first solo trip to Guatemala in August. I was born in Guate, but I grew up in the US. I was fortunate to be able to visit during my summer and winter breaks. but I am always with family, even now at 22. I constantly feel like I’m being watched over by my family (with good reason), but I want to be able to at home without the fear or pressure.an American friend of mine visited Guate for the time in her own last year, she lived in La Antigua and it was amazing to hear her experience. but she got to know my home better than I did, like the street system, and the zones. I felt discouraged bc these are things I should know.so my goal is to reconnect with my culture, my country, and to be more confident despite the dangers (bc there’s danger everywhere).any advice for those who have travelled solo to my beautiful nation? via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2OqtNEF
