Cost effective road trip without owning a car?
Oxymoronic question time!
I live deep in the heart of a metropolis in the midwest (that should narrow it down super fast) and because of that I haven't owned a car in over a decade. I kind of want to go on a road trip (or at least do something other than get into a plane that takes me directly to my touristy destination).
What is the most cost effective (both in dollars and time spent) option? Renting a car for more than a couple days gets expensive fast. Do I buy a beater and then sell it after? Do I just take trains and buses to see more of the country?
