About to finish 3 weeks solo in Japan as a 16-year-old

When I was planning this trip I was overwhelmed by the lack of information available for travelling alone as a minor outside of Europe so I figured I’d make a list of things I would have found helpful/reassuring before I left. 1. Most hostels have a minimum age requirement for guests, however, I was worried this would only apply with parental supervision. It doesn’t, if a hostel allows accompanied minors it also allows solo minors. 2. No one will realise that you are 16 and travelling alone. I was worried this might make me a ‘target’. But most people will not pay any attention to you and assume that your parents are a few minutes away. 3. You can have fun on your own and you can also become friends with people who are older than you. I was desperately trying to find young people to meet up with but the truth is the main barrier between a minor and a young adult is that they can drink alcohol legally and you can’t. This is not as significant as it might seem.Sorry for the terrible formatting I’m on mobile also if you have any questions feel free to ask. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2LoCCw6
