Is this Roadtrip doable within my time constraints?
Some family members of mine are moving from Chicago to Tucson, AZ, and I may be called upon to help them drive a car down to Arizona. I'd be driving solo. Due to work constraints I can't leave Chicago any earlier than Thursday morning (I'd be flying in from my home on the East Coast the night before, but could leave at 5/6 AM if needed), and due to personal commitments I need to be back home by Monday morning, which seems to mean leaving Tucson on a flight at 1 PM Sunday. Thus, there'd be no time for scenic detours, and the goal would be to get to Tucson as quickly as is safely possible.
Can this trip be done within those time constraints? Google Maps suggests it can be done as 3 nine hour days (with stops in Joplin, MO and Santa Rosa, NM), which would get me to Tucson Saturday night with plenty of time to make my flight. But my prior experience has been that Google Maps doesn't account for food and rest stops, I'm worrying that it'd be more like 10-11 hour days, which is a lot.
Does anyone have any alternative suggestions on how to divvy up the road trip to make it more doable while still making it home by Monday morning?
