First 'big' solo trip to Thailand

Ive been to a few US cities by myself, but Ive decided I want to leave the country, and it looks like Ill be going alone. Right now I am planning for around 3 weeks in January. Id like to see Chaing Mai, Phuket, maybe Phi Phi and thats all Ive looked into so far (I started planning this today haha). I would love to visit one of the elephant sanctuaries. Any wildlife I can see in general would be amazing - any specific recommendations?I am also very eager about the food. I am vegan and hear Thailand has some great options.I was tempted to book a one-way ticket, but I really dont want to worry about the Visas or anything like that. I think 3 weeks will be enough time to take it all in. I hear all the time Thailand is a safe area, however I am a 24F and safety is definitely on my mind. Do you guys carry pepper spray? Or is general awareness sufficient? Might bring some pepper spray just for my own peace of mind.Ive planned my trips to other cities, but never anything like this, and no one in my family/friends have either. How different is it to land in a city across the world opposed to one just a thousand miles away? I am hoping to meet some people while Im there to roam around with at least a bit. If anyone has any general advice regarding their first "big" trip, Id love to hear it. I dont want to plan too much, but I definitely want to make the best use of my time while there! via /r/solotravel http://bit.ly/2J1knJC
