All my friends bailed on our Peru trip. I'm sick of waiting and I think I'm going to go alone. I've never been out of the US should I still do it?

I've never traveled alone (except in the US where I live) and I'm pretty nervous about it but I can't go another year saying things like "oh I would really like to go X place" or "oh maybe next year" I'm sick of looking at my passport with its sad no stamps. The closest I've been to outside of the United States is Puerto Rico.My basic itinerary plan was to fly to cusco and solo hike Salkantay to Machu Picchu. I have read about a company called refugios de salkantay that will basically take care of your accommodations and you just walk to a different hostel each night until you get to Machu Picchu. Apparently people have had luck just going and booking along the way but mi espanol es muy malo and since I'm now looking at going alone I think it would be easier/safer to get my accommodations made for me. I live right in the appalachian mountains and I run around all over the AT by myself so I figure this would probably be even safer than that since there will be more people and tours everywhere. I plan for this portion of the trip to take about a week.I would like to then go to Arequipa and do the trek up Chachani. I would have another week for this. I think I would use Peru hop to get there-- but I basically just want use it to go Arequipa and then back to Cusco is that worth it? How often do these buses run? I was hoping to keep this part of the trip a little flexible, but I'm not sure that's a good idea.I have read a lot of blogs that say that booking tours in person is better cause they are cheaper that way, but I need to do both of these things in two weeks since that's all I have. I will definitely get machu picchu tickets ahead of time, but what about Salkantay and Chachani? I will be going late October/early November so the beginning of off season.I plan on staying in hostels the entire time. I will definitely book the first one in cusco ahead of time, but should I do the same for Arequipa?I would like to add to this that I'm about 5' 2", 100lbs, white as a sheet, and aggressively blonde so I will DEFINITELY stick out super bad. People have already mentioned the movie "Taken" to me (thanks, guys) and I have been told I will be kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. ( Liam Neeson should be scared of what I will do if I find him for making that horrible movie since I have to hear about it from every friend and family member any time I try to do anything, but I digress). I told them that Peru is pretty safe and probably safer than the frankly scary neighborhood I live in right now, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous and I'm really not sure if I should since I haven't traveled any where except the US. Am I kidding myself here? Is this too ambitious for a first timer? Thanks and sorry if this is a little incoherent and I know people ask about Peru here a bit it just seems like most people have more time than I do to explore the country. I want to get the best bang for my buck. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2XzfctO
