Hello everyone,

I'm an 18 year old guy. I'll be traveling to Milan in June and I'll be in Europe for 3 weeks (20 days). This is my first time traveling alone so I had a few questions, please help me out.

I haven't quite fixed my travel itinerary but it looks like this:

Week 1: Milan, Rome, Naples, Turin (not in order). Week 2: Amsterdam/Netherlands Week 3: Switzerland (Lausanne) and Prague

Accommodation: I'm looking to stay in hostels and AirBnb's I know it's quite hectic and rushed so feel free to drop any suggestions you might have.

I had the following questions.

  1. Is Europe safe for an 18 year old guy traveling alone?
  2. How exactly does the hostel system work? I found a site called hostelling international which sells memberships for booking hostels. Is this an advisable option? If not, what alternatives do I have?
  3. Traveling between cities: I was thinking of getting an eurail global pass to make traveling via trains easier in Europe. Is this the best option to travel within Europe or do suitable alternatives exist?
  4. I noticed that train companies also sell passes individually (apart from eurail). Is this a better option than buying an eurail pass?
  5. Considering I'm traveling alone, what's the best way for me to meet people?
  6. Finally around how much would you estimate daily expenses would be including food, sightseeing, traveling etc?
