Tips on how to stay safe traveling alone in Lima, Peru
Hi all! I will be traveling for the first time out of my country (the United States) and will be traveling (mostly) alone. I am going to Lima, Peru to the Pan American Games with my husband, but unfortunately will be practically alone as he is required to stay in the Athlete Village and I am not allowed to join him. I will be staying in the Mira Flores district and have to navigate housing and travel for myself. I am a very cautious person and am concerned about safety since I’m a solo-traveling young female who doesn’t know the language well. I don’t want to stay cooped up in my hotel room, but I don’t want to go out only to be assaulted or taken advantage of financially (taxis, markets, etc.) Any tips on safety, understanding value, what to be cautious of, how to blend in and so on are very appreciated!
