Hey everyone,

I'm traveling to Italy for 9 days this summer for the first time. I'll be coming from Salzburg, Austria and I'd like to visit Bergamo and Rome. Originally I wanted to go to Matera as well, but it is too far, as my flight departs from Rome.

Which cities should I visit that are similar in feel to Matera but that aren't south of Rome? I'm hesitant about Florence because I know it can be super touristy (I know Rome is too, but Florence is much smaller).

If it helps, I'm an art/architecture lover and I'm not super into beaches.

Also, would it be best to instead leave from Innsbruck (shorter train ride) or just fly out of Salzburg?
