Solo trip in Florence, but then there's a goddamn crossbow tournament in San Marino...
Hope that title caught your eye, 'cause I need your help, dear travel folk.
I'm planning my first solo trip for my birthday-- July 16th. I originally planned to fly from LAX to FLR (or Rome, and just take the train up to Florence) on the 13th, stay with a host for 10 days. What I was going to do was use Florence as a home base (after heavily, heavily exploring it and all its 15th and 16th century art) and take day trips by train to various areas outside of it, like Siena, Roma, and Bologna.
But then my dad told me about this crossbow tournament he'd been to, years ago, in San Marino. It's held at the end of July. So now I need help figuring out what the hell to do. Should I just still stay in Florence, or stay for the 10 days and then airbnb at another city/town, then head to San Marino for day or two? Has anyone been in that region that could recommend cool places? I'm an artist and big art history nerd so if it's got art museums/ruins/etc. I'd be eternally grateful.
I also like Italian food. A whole lot. Give me pizza with proper leopard spots.
