Planning for Quebec
I'm trying to get planning going in advance for a trip I'd like to take to Quebec City and Montreal around this time next year. I have a few questions regarding logistics and culture so any assistance or points in the right direction would be awesome!
First, I work full time so my plan right now is to leave on a Friday and probably come back Wednesday as I don't get a ton of vacation time. Would love to be able to fit PEI or Newfoundland in but I don't think it's gonna happen this time unfortunately. Is this enough time to do both cities justice? I see that the train between the two takes a few hours so that's doable but I just want to make sure I'm not putting too much on my plate. Also, is the bus or the train the best way to get between the two?
Time of year - with the east coast climate I'm assuming May is a safe bet to go, but I'm open to ideas. I don't mind cold weather at all either so I'd be willing to go earlier in the year if it meant avoiding high season.
Quebec culture - I speak French but "France" French. My only exposure to Quebecois thus far has been through movies and I've never conversed with someone from Quebec. Might be a long shot but has anyone had experience with a similar situation and can give a rough idea of how difficult the dialect barrier is? Would it be preferable to give it a try anyways and hope they appreciate the fact that I tried?
Finally, any must sees, hidden gems, side trips outside the city would be more than welcome! Would love to hear what you love about Quebec. TIA!
