Out of your comfort zone - but in your budget... zone?
Hey all,
I've been trying to take a vacation fora few years, but things keep getting in the way. I was set to visit New Orleans, but I got laid off. Then, I was going to go to Porto/Lisbon - but I had to make some financial decisions. I was going to go to Las Vegas/Portland with a friend, but THEY got laid off!
(For what it's worth, I was really interested in visiting North Korea for their "Film Festival", but I was convinced that is a very stupid and naive idea)
I know these aren't very similar - but I've been chomping at the bit at stepping out of my comfort zone. I'm 28 (but I've been 29 for a few years, you know?) and I want to take the plunge and run somewhere for a week or so. USA or International - not too expensive and decent public transportation/alternatives.
I'm sure this has been asked millions of times before, but what are your favorite places to recommend that fit that criteria (transport, financially modest)? I know the best recommendation can depend on what I like, but I'm wondering if there are any like-minded folks who've had a similar mindset and went on a trip that was satisfying.
(28, New York City, tall, slightly socially anxious)
