Is plane travel ethical/responsible?
Hey all, so I have been in Europe for a while now on a study abroad exchange, loving every minute here. I have been able to see amazing cities and meet people from all over the world, all by bus or train. However, as a dedicated environmentalist, I know I will have more opportunities to fly abroad again (from the US), but am seriously rethinking my personal behavior and the impact this has on the environment. As we all know, we need a massive lifestyle and societal shift towards zero CO2 emissions - and this needs to happen fast. I just can no longer justify plane travel despite its convenience. This has been really bothering me as I would love to see more of the world, but once I'm back in the Americas I doubt if I'll ever allow myself to go overseas by plane again. It sucks a lot but I truly think this is something I have to do. I will be using train, bus, bike, boat, my own two feet - because I still think traveling is worth it, even if it takes much longer. The current global situation is just too dire to make excuses for massively polluting behavior like flying anymore.
I'm curious as to if any other solo travelers have thought about this and how you dealt with this reality. Just open for any discussions and thoughts, no judgement.
