How do you meet one-evening friends when traveling? [Fixed]
(Removed my current location so it would look like I am looking for a meetup right now. It's a general question).
I am a 40 years old male, who occasionally travels alone. I'm good with it, but the question is - how to find company for an evening?
Once it was easy - you stay in hostel, and it works there. But it became more problematic with years. But I am becoming too old to share rooms with other people, and the age gap with hostel residents makes it harder to make company.
I am also happily married, so I am not looking for sex. So hitting on locals is not an option.
What I would really like is to know people that are of similar age, that would make an evening interesting. A dinner, a good conversation is great. Perhaps some other evening pass-time, like a concert, or show, or whatever. In company.
I have no idea how this can be done. In our digital world, I'd expect a tinder-like app, but without the sex. But there is none, to the best of my knowledge. And going to restaurants/concerts/etc works in the sense that I enjoy the meal/music/so on, but most people come in groups, and it seems a bit rude to try and join them. If they are anything like my friends, they are busy people that get to see each other not so often, so I wouldn't want to disturb them.
So, how do you get to know people?
