So I'm going to Costa Rica over the holiday period in December. I'll be flying into Liberia. I'm going mostly for relaxing, surfing and the beach, this will be a 9 day trip. I plan on not renting a car and just taking shuttles/buses. So some questions- from anyone's experience:

  1. Pre book or walk in check in to hotels/hostels? From experiences in Asia the hostels you can book online are overpriced compared to places you just meander into. Not wanting to sleep on a yoga mat for a week, but also not wanting to overpay for lodging for my simple needs.

  2. In terms of the Guanacanaste/Puntarenas provinces what's the best areas for just surfing and chilling out. I'm not trying to party all night.

  3. What other really cool experiences will I regret missing out on over that's specific to CR/Northern Pacific CR?
