Hi all,

I am going to be in Bend in a couple weeks for work and plan to spend a few days in the area then drive down to LA to meet my friend. I'd like to go down the Pacific Coast (taking US 101 and CA 1) and would love some advice on a few things from anyone who has done a similar trip.

Some Background. I havent driven for long distances much, so I plan to take it pretty slow and stop plenty. I will be in Bend 11th-14th for work, then will be free from the 15th and leaving from LA 9pm on the 22nd.

So besides any suggestions/tips you may have, there's a couple things i want to know ..

Would I be ok in a rwd car visiting some of the state parks and such?

Does this route usually have much traffic, or more just around the large cities?

Any experience stopping off and sleeping on the side of the road (where permitted)?
