26 hour drive: First time long-distance driver. Advice??
I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I’m looking for some advice on a very long drive! Next weekend, I will be moving from Wisconsin to Arizona (26 hour drive). I’ve been the passenger in very long drives, but the longest I’ve ever driven by myself is about four hours. My mom is coming with me, but she doesn’t drive so she’s just there for the company. I’m planning on doing the trip in three days but I could make it four days if necessary. I don’t have any specific day I need to be there, I just don’t want to spend too much money on hotels. Also, it will be Memorial Day weekend so I expect it to take longer than 26 hours.
So! One of my biggest questions—is it better to book hotels in advance or just start searching for a hotel once I start getting tired of driving? Or maybe just have a general idea of where I’m thinking of stopping but not actually book anything? Speaking of hotels, any franchises you recommend for or against?
Another huge thing—I would love some suggestions on good podcasts to binge! I’ve started looking but there’s so many available it’s hard to choose.
Finally, I’d appreciate any general advice on driving for long periods of time. Since it’ll be over the course of so many days, I’m much more concerned about comfort/sanity than timing so I plan on stopping fairly often. Thanks for the advice everyone!!
