23F first solo trip - broke my leg one month into five month adventure.

All of last year I worked a pretty tedious job, but managed to save up a nice sum of money with the intention of long-term / indefinite travel in mind.
I quit my job in March, packed all my stuff up, said goodbye to my friends and took a flight to South East Asia.
I spent the first month in Thailand with the intention of going to Vietnam for a few months to work and explore, as well as visit Laos, Cambodia and potentially India/Nepal.
Unfortunately I never made it out of Thailand and am currently on a business class trip back to Australia. I fell awkwardly while hiking in Pai, Northern Thailand and ended up fracturing my fibula bone in my left leg. The doctor in Pai said I’d be able to walk again in two weeks... although that claim seemed a bit optimistic.
Desperately hoping I wouldn’t have to go home, I took a pretty gruelling trip back to Chiang Mai (with a broken leg), visited another doctor and was told that I’d be good to walk in around 4 weeks. I spent about a week in a hostel with a broken leg, feeling kind of shitty because I had to stay in the hostel while everyone would go out and do activities / explore.
My insurance company wrote to me that they require me to seek medical advise in Australia and pretty much ordered me to come home immediately.
Long story short: I plan to recover in Australia for a month and then get my ass back over to South East Asia to continue the trip.
It just sucks that this inconvenience has cost me some time and a pretty sum of money $$.
Has anyone else had any solo travel horror stories?
