Would it be a hassle to drive in Italy? Just got my International driving permit, having some doubts about renting a car.
26/US coming back to Italy for my 7th time. I have 9 nights altogether, spending my first three in Florence then I'm winging it. I really want to drive in the Tuscan countryside for a day or two and maybe visit Lucca or Siena and just enjoy the autonomy of driving in a foreign country. I've seen a lot in Italy and now I just want to focus on the improving my Italian and having good food with good people. Stopping at an agriturismo sounds intensely peaceful.
On the other hand I'm not really planning some extravagant sightseeing vacation. I can easily get from Florence to Lucca or wherever by train. I'm afraid of unnecessarily complicating my vacation by adding a rental into the mix. Plus Italian drivers are their own breed.
Anybody have experience renting a car in Italy?
