Who to talk to while solo traveling in remote places?
I’ve been solo traveling by bike for a bit over two years now. Have been spending a lot of time in remote places with no tourists and where people usually don’t speak English. Right now I’m in north west China at the Mongolian border. Haven’t talked to anyone IRL in about 5 weeks, except for shallow conversations with locals in Chinese and using Google translate.
This in it self is not new. I’ve spent a lot of time alone in deserts in countries like Iran, Oman and the UAE. What’s new is that people I talk to at home over Skype no longer share my excitement. Family and friends I usually talk to on a weekly basis is far less interested today then say, a year ago.
It’s strange to be around this many people, interacting with locals, taking selfies, playing with kids and still feel like you have no one to talk to.
How do you handle the isolation while on the road for a long time? Who do you talk to?
