Where to stay in NYC after i bought plane tickets but I can no longer stay at my friend's place?
27 yr old guy here. I'm heading up to New York City in almost exactly a month. I was planning to stay at a friend's place in the Bronx, but something came up and he'll need to move out before i get there. While this makes my trip more expensive, it might be a blessing in disguise because i'll be able to stay somewhere more ideal.
I've been to New York City once before with family when i was 13, and on that trip I did times square/empire state bldg/Ellis Island/etc. So it's actually kind of nice that i don't have to do a lot of the annoying "must-do" tourist things this time. I'm gonna be in the city from 5/25 - 5/31 (Saturday-Friday). I've done solo trips in Berlin/Vienna/Prague, and Madrid in the past.
Here are some things i have on my itinerary:
- Central Park
- Highline
- Comedy Cellar/Comedy Clubs
- Brooklyn Bridge
Other Possibilities:
- Yankees Game?
- See a Broadway Show?
- Staten Island Ferry?
Aside from those things, I'd like to get a feel for the city, the subway, and the different neighborhoods... find great food, meet people, and hopefully hit up some bars/clubs a few nights. I'd like to check out Brooklyn for more than just a few hours - as I think i'd like the vibe / people.
So far I've been looking at staying at:
- The Pod Hotel (midtown)
- The Jane (West Village)
I've also looked at airbnb's, but since i don't know the streets very well, I can't get an idea of what's a good spot. It also seems like NYC has some weird airbnb laws that might be annoying for me.
Based on my post, does anyone have any advice for where I should stay for a week in the city without murdering my bank account?
Thanks!
