Senior Year Road Trip
For our senior trip my buddy and I are doing a road-trip basically out to California and back. But there's a catch. We want to make a semi-educational documentary-style not-really-a-vlog type video series for it. Highlighting the places we stop. Which are, Colorado Springs, Durango, Carlsbad NM, San Diego, Sequoia National Park, Yosemite, San Francisco, and then a little farther north before heading back to Kansas City. I would like to drive as much of Highway 1 as possible, and I know we will have to cut back into California quite a ways and then back out. After San Francisco we go north still just for a while before heading back.
We haven't been able to find anything online that is similar to what we are wanting the videos to turn out as, but we found a few pieces of things that we like. Our influences include, Coyote Peterson (for production quality, animations, informative, and just plain gets a lot of viewers), the movie Expedition Happiness (for the travel aspect, although we will be using a Honda Pilot and staying in hotels), and Rock the Parks (for the knowledge and National Parks aspect).
We have 2 weeks exactly for this trip with no wiggle room, which sounds crazy and cramped, I know, but it's all we have.
I would love advice for filming, editing, travel advice, really anything. The equipment we have is a Canon 80d, a GoPro hero 6, a DJI Phantom 4 pro, and we plan on getting a Rode SmartLav mic and a Tascam DR-05
We really have no idea how these videos should be structured, other than making a seperate video for every day semi-uncut, and then compiling all the highlights into a longer movie that incorporates everything. So far I have made an animation that will show a path of where we have been and where we are going, but that's about it. We are thinking about making a YouTube channel for this adventure, and on the off chance we gain a decent amount of exposure we will do more videos, however I feel like with the current state of YouTube we won't find any success. Nonetheless this is the adventure of our lifetimes!
