Recommendations: North American Roadtrip
whats up fellow solotravellers,
Ive been lurking this sub for years and reading everyone gave me the courage to go on my first solo trip to Europe a while back, so thank you guys.
Im looking for some tips/info/input into a solo North American roadtrip I am planning. Im currently living in Toronto and will be completing a 1-year work contract at the end of this summer. My plan is to get in my car and basically drive around the States and into Mexico and Central America for a few months.
I was hoping some of you had some tips or recommendations for this type of trip.
A few questions im contemplating:
-Where do I sleep? Is Airbnb or a cheap hotel/motel my only option? I'll need to try to keep costs low so i might sleep in my car a few nights per week.. couchsurfing isnt my thing.
-Driving in Mexico and Central America. I know my Canadian car insurance doesn't cover me beyond Canada and the US. How does one handle this? How expensive is it?
-I would like to find a place to stay more longer term (maybe a month?) in an attempt to miss our Canadian winters. Ive been looking on Trustedhousesitters to try to find a house or pet sitting job but was wondering if anyone has any similar suggestions. I could work a job?
Any input, stories, or recommendations are welcome.
