Plan to travel CA and SA in September: A few questions about current (very) loose itinerary!
Hi all! I'm finally making the leap to solo travel on my own later this year but I'm not sure if I'm trying to bite off more than I can chew. I'd appreciate if you could give your opinions on how realistic my ideas are as I'm a little worried that I'm getting carried away.
I have been working with STA Travel for flights as they were the most competitive in price and have settled on the following:
4th September 2019 - Fly from London to Cancun, Mexico.
8th February 2020 - Fly from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Auckland, NZ.
3rd of March 2020 - Fly Auckland, NZ to Melbourne, Australia.
I got all these flights for £1200, which I just felt I couldn't pass up. I trialled lots of different options such as removing the flights to NZ and Australia and they honestly made very little difference, so this is why I decided to keep them. Included in the price is the option to change my tickets 3 times (whether that's date or destination) without any change fees, only paying additional for difference in flight cost. I have friends in both NZ and Australia and plan to do a WHV in Australia after my trip.
The reason I wanted to start in Central America is because I really love the sound of Guatemala and Nicaragua and would love to pursue learning Spanish with a host family in Antigua. The flights to Cancun however were significantly cheaper, so with the advice of my agent I went for that. However I'm starting to notice that there are very few travel accounts that start from Mexico and go all the way to Argentina, so I'm not sure if I'm being too ambitious?
My budget for CA and SA would be approx. £4000, with approx. £4000 left for Australia and NZ. I fully intend on taking advantage of workaways while I am there to stretch my money farther. In NZ, I will be staying with friends a lot of the time so do not expect to pay a huge amount for accommodation. On top of this, I may already have work lined up in Melbourne for when I arrive.
Is this a realistic plan or do I need to rethink where I'm flying into/out of and how much time/money I am allocating to everything?
I appreciate all your help in advance, this sub has honestly been a haven while I've been slowly saving to do my own trip!
