Peru questions for food-focused trip, where to eat and other cities nearby with exceptional food/regional specialties not found in Lima?
Hi all, I am looking at stretching out a connection in Lima to 4 or 7 days instead of a just a few hour layover. I am mostly interested in the food, traditional Peruvian food as well as the chifa Asian-Peruvian cuisine. I imagine I would be remiss to not see some ancient cities so I'd like to fit that in as well.
I can either spend 7 nights Thursday - Thursday, or 4 nights Sunday - Thursday. So relatively short trip. I have a few questions:
What are some other cities that are easily accessible from Lima that have interesting food, perhaps local dishes not found in Lima, and that also have ancient ruins? I see flights are cheap and quick to Cuzco. Is that my best bet, or are there other cities within a few hours by bus/train?
How is the food in Cuzco?
If I do go to Cuzco, are there day trips to Machu Picchu and should I just go there, or are there other worthwhile ancient cities nearby that are easy to visit?
Thanks!
