Last minute first time solo trip to Europe, need help with budget, phone plans, etc!
Hi! I’m in the US planning a 1 month, 1.5 trip this summer to Europe, and I realize plane tickets getting to my destination will be expensive since it’s fairly soon, and I’m planning on booking in a week or two once my plans are more finalized. This will also be my first solo trip outside the US where I won’t immediately be seeing a friend on the other side. Most of my time will be spent alone with few evenings/weekends connecting with my friends in various countries.
However, I was wondering if this can be done for 5-7k? I’m also a light skinned woman of color in her late 20s with naturally curly hair. For reference, I’m a slightly lighter version of Nathalie Emmanuel (so, will racism or anything of the sort be an issue? I don’t remember anything happening last time I traveled to Europe nearly a decade ago but I also wasn’t solo, and I’m also going to different places).
I know I’ll probably be spending the bulk of my money on travel + accommodations (single rooms at hostels or in an Airbnb since I’m not comfortable with sharing a space with strangers).
I’d also need a phone plan that would work in the places I wanted to visit so I can google general questions, use maps if offline maps aren’t working (google maps didn’t work for me in Japan :/). I’m looking to switching my phone to T-Mobile and I see I can add on some international plans fairly cheaply. Does anyone have experience with their service?
Anyways, as far as places I’d be going, I’m going to the following:
- Denmark (Copenhagen) - 1 week
- England (London (hard maybe) Southampton, Manchester and probably Nottingham) - the majority of my time. 2+ weeks.
- Spain (Madrid, possibly Granada or Barcelona) - 1-2wks. Hard maybe
I’d like to also consider these places:
- Italy (unsure of location and/dates, or if I can fit it in)
- France (Versailles) - 2, 2.5 days. I just want to revisit Versailles here
- Ireland (unsure of location/time frame)
- Belgium (Brussels) - 2-3 days
For England and Spain, I am pretty sure accommodations will be covered for some places as I have friends that live there, but I am not 100% sure
As for venturing out, I am pretty sure I will be joining bike tours/walking tours/etc to explore the city and come back to what I liked visiting. I’ll be doing museums solo because I like stumbling upon artists and discovering new work.
I’m also sorry if this is too jumbled! Basically tl;dr: will I be able to cover this trip on 5-7k, racism??, phone plans with data, tips tricks and suggestions as I feel like I don’t know what the heck I’m doing.
