First time solo traveler wondering if going with a touring agency is a rookie mistake

I’m a 27 year old woman newly living in Washington state from the southwest. I’ve got a week off at the end of August, and with no one to travel with, am wondering if I should take a leap of faith and give this solo travel thing a go.

I’m really considering Vietnam or somewhere similar simply due to the gorgeous pictures I’ve seen and cost.

But, I do have some concerns regarding being in a non-English speaking country, not knowing a single soul, and personal and financial safety while abroad. so, I’ve been looking into joining a touring group to put my mind (and my mother’s) at a bit of ease.

The one that seems fairly decent is Intrepid but would like some real world reviews of this service and if I’m making a huge mistake investing in a tour at all.

Southeast Asia or maybe South America. Any tour group reviews or recommendations would be highly appreciated!
