First Solo Trip to Italy - Itinerary Suggestions
Hi guys — Long time lurker, first time poster. I (24M from Canada) just booked my first solo trip to Rome from Aug 1 to Aug 10. Wasn’t planning on booking so impulsively but I found a ridiculous deal online that I think must have been an error from the airline. Seeing as it’s my first solo trip I want to keep it relatively straightforward but also want to enjoy what the country has to offer.
My original plan was to just stay in the Yellow Hostel in Rome for all 9 nights. I’ve never been to Italy so I figured Rome would offer a good balance of stuff to do during the day while also being fun at night. I am a social guy so definitely looking to meet, drink and party with others too. After speaking with a friend he suggested I visit more cities to avoid getting bored. Did some digging online and came up with this alternative schedule:
Day 1-4: Rome (Yellow Hostel) Day 5: Day trip to Pompeii for a few hours, then head to a hostel in Sorrento (If it’s still early then maybe a quick ferry to Capri for a few hours too) Day 6: Day trip to the Amalfi Coast then back to Sorrento Day 7-8: Florence (PLUS Florence Hostel) Day 9: Back to Rome Day 10: Fly home at 10:00am
My only concern with the second schedule is that it might be too much for a first time solo traveler. I feel like Rome has more than enough to keep me busy for the whole 10 days - the last thing I want to do is spread myself too thin and not enjoy the trip. Any input guys?
TLDR; First trip to Italy. Should I stay in Rome or visit other cities?
