First Solo Trip Australia Itinerary -- Am I spending too long in one spot?
I (22M) will be doing my first solo trip in Australia this June after leaving a prior trip with a friend in New Zealand. Excluding travel days I will have 14 days in Australia (no jet lag either since ill be coming from NZ). I'm a little lost on this since the continent is so big but I know for sure I will be arriving in Melbourne at the very start of June and likely leaving from Cairns to go on to Singapore 15 days later.
I do have a few target items for my trip:
Great Barrier Reef (before it's gone)
Daintree Rainforest
Blue Mountains
Wildlife (Roos, Quokka etc)
Sydney (Can't go without seeing the Opera House at least)
12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road would be great but i'm not sure since its Winter for the south coast and my short timeframe.
Uluru seems inaccessible on this short trip
I have put together a possible itinerary, but it is pretty sparse and not much of a many-stop backpacking route.
Arrive in Melbourne (Day 1 at night)
Stay in Melbourne (Days 2-4)
Leave for Sydney (Day 5)
Stay in Sydney (Days 6-8)
Leave for Cairns (Day 9)
Stay in Cairns (10-15)
Leave Cairns for Singapore (Day 16)
This is obviously a very long time in Cairns, but seeing as it is Winter I don't think spending most of my trip in Queensland is a bad thing. I was considering a stop in Byron Bay for ~2 days but I am tight on money seeing as I will be traveling both before and after this. I originally looked at flying in to Brisbane from Sydney and taking a bus down to Byron and then fly back out of Brisbane to Cairns (This adds ~$250 to the fare). My accommodations for the trip are Hostels and maybe a bit of camping. Any thoughts/suggestions on how long I am staying in each spot?
