First Solo Travel in El Salvador
Spent this past weekend in El Salvador, El Tuco. The town was filled with tourist and locals due to easter weekend.
Stayed at Zen Hotel & Bar for 40 per night in their suite, as a american i would rate this place a 2 star but given that it isnt the U.S. It was a happy compromise between cost and room quality. Very basic room, that would compare more to a motel.
Across the hotel was a surf school charging $10 usd per hour, included equipment.
Food : I spent my mornings at Dale Dale Cafe, included your typical salvadorians breakfast dishes, very clean spot. I spent evenings at Roca Sunzal (expect to pay prices equal to that in the states), enjoyed their food and atmosphere.
I was a bit concern being there alone but really opened up by 2nd night, the beach town had a guarded entrance and decent police presence. Friday night I was out until 5am and the streets were safe, hanged out at the beach pier and chatted with locals. Large amount of people gathered at the pier to either sleep or chat and wait for sunrise.
Nightlife for me included Beach Life nightclub, Thekla beach club and Blu. All were cash only at the bar, you had to have a table in order to pay via card. Tables at the clubs are cheap, $45 purchase, but being there solo it can be difficult to reach that amount. I ended up befriending groups there and inviting them to join me and help me reach that limit. Alcoholic beverages are cheap, usually $1-$2 per beer, $1-$2 shots, and whisky i spent around $5-$10 per cup.
First solo experience so this post is perhaps everywhere. Hope it helps anyone.
