Do you find the bigger cities to be lonelier?
I’m doing some solo travel around Asia and it’s going great. I’ve been seeing everything I’ve wanted to see, took some chances and tried things I’d never do at home. I’ve been hostel hopping and most of the time, it’s incredibly easy to go up to someone and become their travel buddy for the next few days while you explore the area.
However, I’ve been finding that it’s harder to meet people in big cities. I was just in Sapa and the 10 people I was with in the hostel instantly became super close and we trekked together all weekend. Now I’m in Hanoi, with 2 nights before my flight to Thailand and I find it super lonely. Everyone in my big hostel is travelling with friends, nobody is very welcoming, and I’m finding myself spending my last nights in Vietnam heading to bed early to watch Netflix.
Maybe I’m just tired, but I’m finding I miss the smaller group feelings of small towns, and big cities I feel lonelier than ever. And it’s making me nervous because my next stop if Bangkok!
What do you think? Do you prefer solo travel in big or small places?
