Best hiking for a budget traveler in Europe?

I (20M) am taking my first solo trip this June to Europe. I'm flying in to Amsterdam and will spend a few days there before I move on to hopefully go hiking. I am from the US and have lots of experience hiking/wilderness backpacking but I am hoping to find locations that would be more of going town to town and sleeping in hostels or cheap bed and breakfasts. I am planning on staying in hostels for the other portions of my trip so I dont want to bring all of the camping gear I would normally need.

I have been looking at Switzerland or France to hike in the alps for a few days, but I am not sure that I could afford either with my current budget as I hear they get expensive in the summer. Somewhere on this sub I read that I may be able to find cheap mountain huts for accomadation in Switzerland through the Swiss Alpine Club but after checking out some prices I'm still not sure theyre affordable. The Churfirsten range was recommended to me by a friend that studied abroad there as he said that it is beautiful and less traveled to by tourists versus the Matterhorn or the Gridelwald area.

Are there any trails in Eastern Europe that could provide excellent views along with cheap places to stay? It could be fun to go on a trail for a while and then travel to a large city like Budapest or Vienna for a few days to recharge.

Also, any suggestions on best method of travel to and from these places would be great!

Thanks in advance!
