1 week New Zealand South Island road trip - advice, suggestions?
Hey roadtrippers!
I'm planning to visit New Zealand in October with a work friend. We will be flying into Christchurch first, as we are attending a conference in Hamner Springs.
After that, we have about 1 week free to road trip around South Island! I'm really looking forward to this as I've heard such glowing reviews from friends on the scenery. I'd love to hear any suggestions on:
- Places to visit? Where to briefly stop by, and where to stay the night? Anywhere you feel that's unmissable, or anywhere that's overrated? Would rather spend more time in fewer places than try and cram the itinerary.
- Accommodation recommendations that's not hostels or shared rooms.
- Food! Happy to eat most things.
- Activities that's motion-sickness friendly? Unfortunately I get motion-sick easily so I'd prefer to avoid thrillseeking/adrenaline-rush activities.
- For context, I'm an Australian guy in my mid 20's and my work friend is of a similar age.
If anyone's done a week-or-so road trip around South Island I'd love to hear your itinerary.
We haven't decided whether to end the trip at Christchurch or Queenstown, happy to do either.
Thanks in advance!
