Looking for recommendations on where to stay in Playa del Carmen, MX it's a short trip 4 days . I like the beach, nature, and meeting other people.

Which type of accommodation is best? I read that there is sometimes a sea weed issue and most resorts clean it, but when I think of resorts I think of children, families and couples. If I stay at an airbnb or hostel is it safe? Can I still get some good beach time, and meet other people?
