Tips/recommendations for my Kyiv (Kiev) plans?
I'm particularly interested in any solo female perspectives. I've pretty well decided on going to Kyiv, April 25-30. I'm very interested in museums and monuments.
-
Dream House Hostel seems like the top recommendation. Any other place I should consider? Not looking for a party atmosphere but friendly and social and clean.
-
Any of these places that I should prioritize? Anything big I've missed? Pechersk Lavra Monastery, WWII museum and Rodina Mat statue, National Museum of the History of Ukraine, Folk Art Museum, Museum of Ukraine Historical Treasures, Museum of Culture, National Art Museum. I will be there during Orthodox Easter, so I'm expecting most if not all museums to be closed on Sunday and possibly Monday in addition to their regular closures.
-
Chernobyl day tour (Any opinion on providers? Looking at Chernobyl Welcome or Solo East), hopefully on Sunday or Monday.
-
Any shopping recommendations? Particularly for cosmetics and clothing brands I can't easily find in Western Europe or the US (unless the prices are significantly cheaper), as well as the usual tourist tschotskes.
-
Has anyone done a tank driving excursion? Looking at Adventure Tours in Ukraine for that (I'm willing to break the budget for such a unique experience).
-
Probably a long shot, but has anyone seen a show at the National Theatre? What was that like?
Anything else I should know? I'd really really love to hear about your experiences!
I plan on walking and using the metro when possible. I have done a decent amount of traveling and have studied Russian before. I can read Cyrillic and feel confident about being able to have low-level-fluency interactions (like ordering off a menu), and pantomiming the rest.
