Still not 100% sure which airport I'll be flying to in Istanbul...
Flaring this was hard - Transport, Europe or Asia! Is anyone else affected by this?
So I'm flying Emirates from SYD - DXB - (Istanbul). Then with Turkish Airlines from (Istanbul) to Tashkent for an Uzbekistan trip in mid April.
The Istanbul move from IST (Ataturk) to ISL (The future IST) was already pushed back to December 2018, then to March 3rd (missed) and now to April 6 (just annonced)
I mistakenly didn't use a travel agent for this (my bad on this particular trip) and wasn't able to combine SYD - DXB - IST - TAS onto one ticket as Emirates do not codeshare with Turkish (I tried), although my travel agent has been able to combine a BNE - DXB - ASB flight with Emirates/Turkish in the past.
I have a 3h 40m layover in what should be IST. This would be plenty if this happened at the same airport, but if Emirates still lands at Ataturk and Turkish moves to ISL I am royally screwed.
My one hopeful consolation is IST's code is suppose to transfer to ISL (ISL is a temporary one) meaning every other major airline theoretically needs to move with Turkish.
I understand this is 100% my problem and I do have several solutions - rescheduling flights, travel insurance may cover, but I'm really just hoping out loud that the Turkish government, airport and airlines all finally make up their mind and just move airports - had they moved in December or last week I would have had more time to make contingency plans.
Oh well, plans changing is sometimes the best thing about travel, and will try to take it in my stride.
