Scottish Highlands without a car
I'm a 23 year old solo traveler on a budget. Unfortunately, due to my age renting a car is subject to a at least a $30/ day charge with most companies. So, right now I am debating booking a group trip vs doing what I can without a car. I'm looking to hear from those with experience on either of those options.
So I guess my major questions are... Have you done the highlands without a car? I love long day hikes, what good ones can you recommend that are accessible via public transit? What am I missing out on by not renting a car? Have you done a group trip, what was your experience & what company did you do it with?
Some thoughts I have about my options:
Group trip
- Inclusive--> but probably more expensive
- Guaranteed to meet people--> but I don't necessarily like the idea of spending time in a large group.
- Would be able to access areas that I couldn't without a car
Solo without a car
- Freedom & flexibility --> but probably long travel days
- Cheaper
- Can still access some hikes etc via public transit
