Scotland Trip - Itinerary Question
Hello all! I am taking a 16 day trip (ground time) to Scotland in the beginning of April and I have a general Itinerary/Plan of what I'd like to do
The first portion of my plan is as follows:
4 nights Edinburgh(late flight arrival)
1 night in Glasgow
-> pick up rental car
2 nights in Glencoe/Gort William and maybe a stop in oban at some point here
4 nights on skye
Outside of the Glencoe/Fort William portion, this is pretty much set in stone as the car rental and accommodations are booked.
The next step is where I have some questions/flexibility. I would really like to do a large portion of the NC500 over 4 days. Drive slow, take in the scenery, maybe do a few quick hikes that kind of stuff. My plan looks something like this
Portree---->Ullapool -119 miles spend night
Ullapool--->Durness/Tongue - 70ish miles spend night
Durness--->John O' Groats/Wick - 75ish miles spend night
John O' Groats/Wick---->Inverness 110 miles spend night
After spending the night in Inverness i would drive back to Glascow, spend the night there before my flight back home goes out early the next morning
I have some ideas of where i would like to stop along this route, but nothing is an absolute must see for me (open to suggestions), I just hear the scenery along the route is incredible and I'd really like to experience it. If anyone has any thoughts/ideas/suggestions I'd love to hear if this plan is feasible/advisable to at least give me a decent taste of the northern portion of Scotland without feeling too rushed.
Or would it be more advisable to go straight to Inverness from Portree/Skye and then do Cairngorms National Park and stick to a route along the east coast?
Thanks for any replies in advance!
