Resources to learn history of SEA
Hey guys, from Koh Phangan. I’m a couple of weeks into a solo trip of SEA, and I’m yearning to start learning more about the history of the region to enrich my travels as I pass through places.
Can anyone recommend good and easily digestible materials for this - podcasts would be especially welcome, as well as books.
I’ve been eyeing ‘A Short History of Southeast Asia’ by Peter Church. Does anyone have experience with this book?
Basically, I’d like a whistle stop of the historical/political/socioeconomic background to the countries/regions I’m travelling through.
On a general note, if anyone would care to share their preferred strategy for this, please share. At the moment I’m pretty much leaning on the Lonely Planet guides I have free access to with my Kindle Unlimited trial.
Cheers!
